PRINT TECHNOLOGY
Print2infinity Studio specializes in sublimation printing. This technique, which uses a wide-format inkjet printer with eco-friendly, heat-sensitive inks, permanently dyes fabric. The resulting images will never fade or crack, even after several washes.
Using fabric rolls with a width of 60 inches or more, our equipment can print fabric of any length or even single pieces. |
WHAT IS SUBLIMATION?
Sublimation is a digital print technology involving heat transfer and pressure.
The image is first printed on transfer paper, which is then placed over the polyester fabric. The two materials are then pressed together at high temperature, at which point the inks change from a solid state to a gaseous one. The pores in the fabric open up when heated, allowing the fibres to absorb the ink molecules. The ink becomes integrated into the fabric: no texture is added, so the fabric feels the same.
The process uses synthetic fabrics, typically white or pale polyester, Lycra® or nylon. Because the inks are translucent, the colour of the fabric will have an impact on the final colour. Also, as there is no white ink, a white textile needs to be used to obtain a white “print.”

Colours and details
- There are no limits to the images that can be reproduced using sublimation.
- Images are printed in high definition and in millions of brilliant, lasting colours.
- Colours are reproduced using the CMYK process.
- The number of colours used has no impact on cost.
- The inks are not treated for UV-resistance, so they will start to fade after approximately one year of use outdoors in full sunlight.
An eco-friendly choice
- This print process uses OEKO-TEX®-certified ecological, water-based inks.
- Inkjet printing is recognized for using 30% less water and 45% less electricity than conventional printing methods.
- All prints are carried out on demand, thereby minimizing fabric waste.
- Fabrics are recyclable and decomposable.
Benefits
- Production speed for sampling, small volumes and limited runs.
- From a design perspective, there is no need to have repeating patterns and it is possible to print elements in a very large format. The door is open wide to infinite creative possibilities.
- The fabric is light and can be transported more easily and at a lower cost, making it easier to install promotional signage.
- A large selection of materials are available for sublimation printing.
Applications
- Interior decor
- Fashion
- Permanent indoor signage
- Non-permanent outdoor signage
- Sport clothing and bathing suits
- Promotional items
